Grove City topples Thomas More

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College volleyball team continued its late-season surge Saturday afternoon by earning a 25-16, 25-21, 17-25, 25-20 victory over visiting Thomas More (22-6, 8-3 PAC) in a Presidents' Athletic Conference match at the Grove City College Arena. It is Grove City's fourth straight victory.

Senior Natalie Liberati (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) paced Grove City with 14 kills while sophomore Inge Rasmussen (Darnestown, Md./Poolesville) added 11 kills. Sophomore Jodi Barry (Bridgeville, Pa./South Fayette) and freshman Anna McCurdy (Guys Mills, Pa./Maplewood) each collected seven kills.

Freshman setter Annie Barry (Bridgeville, Pa./South Fayette) distributed 42 assists and also served three aces.

Defensively, McCurdy paced Grove City (11-18, 5-6 PAC) with 20 digs while Rasmussen recorded 16 digs. Annie Barry and sophomore Kim Budd (Hubbard, Ohio/Hubbard) both recorded 13 digs while Jodi Barry had 11 digs. Liberati also reached double-digits defensively with 10 digs. Jodi Barry, Liberati and McCurdy all racked up three blocks.

Grove City head coach Susan Roberts now has 687 total victories as a head coach at the College, which ties Jim Longnecker for the most total coaching wins in Grove City history. Roberts now has 520 wins as head volleyball coach since taking over the program in 1985. Roberts also compiled 101 wins as head women's basketball coach from 1985-93 and 66 wins as softball coach from 1994-98.

Longnecker compiled a 687-177-1 record from 1957-97 as head men's swimming and diving coach, men's cross country coach and men's track and field coach.

Grove City will host Bethany Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m. in conference action.
