Wolverines sweep Bethany, give Roberts win record

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College volleyball team earned its fifth straight victory Tuesday night as the Wolverines picked up a 25-19, 25-15, 25-21 decision over visiting Bethany in Presidents' Athletic Conference action at the Grove City College Arena.

With the victory, head coach Susan Roberts is now the College's all-time leader in coaching victories. She has 688 total wins at Grove City, including 521 wins in 24 years as head volleyball coach. She also accumulated 101 wins as head women's basketball coach from 1985-93 and 66 as head softball coach from 1994-98. Jim Longnecker recorded 687 victories as head swimming and diving, cross country, and track and field coach from 1957-97 at Grove City.

Tuesday night, Grove City improved to 6-6 in the PAC behind double-digit kill efforts from senior Natalie Liberati (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) and sophomore Becky Chapa (Westford, Mass./Westford Academy). Liberati recorded 15 kills while Chapa added 10 kills.

Freshman setter Annie Barry (Bridgeville, Pa./South Fayette) distributed 36 assists while sophomore Inge Rasmussen (Darnestown, Md./Poolesville) served three aces. Defensively, Rasmussen led Grove City with 15 digs and five total blocks. Sophomore Jodi Barry (Bridgeville, Pa./South Fayette) added three blocks.

Grove City (12-18) will host Westminster Thursday night in PAC action. It is the Wolverines' home finale. Grove City clinches the No. 5 seed in next week's PAC Championship Tournament with a win Thursday night or a victory at Thomas More Saturday morning.
