Wolverines split at Thomas More
CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. -- The Grove City College volleyball team concluded the 2008 regular season Saturday by splitting a pair of matches at Thomas More College's Connor Convocation Center. Grove City opened the twinbill with a 25-20, 25-19, 25-19 setback against Thomas More in Presidents' Athletic Conference action.
However, the Wolverines rebounded for a 17-25, 25-22, 25-19, 25-16 win over Rockford in non-conference action.
Senior Natalie Liberati (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) and freshman Anna McCurdy (Guys Mills, Pa./Maplewood) each recorded seven kills against Thomas More while freshman setter Annie Barry (Bridgeville, Pa./South Fayette) had 18 assists.
Defensively, sophomore libero Kim Budd (Hubbard, Ohio/Hubbard) recorded 15 digs while McCurdy and sophomore Jodi Barry (Bridgeville, Pa./South Fayette) each collected 11 digs. Liberati posted five blocks while Jodi Barry had four blocks.
Sophomore Inge Rasmussen (Darnestown, Md./Poolesville) paced Grove City (13-20, 6-8 PAC) with 10 kills against Rockford. Liberati added nine kills while sophomore Becky Chapa (Westford, Mass./Westford Academy) collected eight kills.
Annie Barry distributed 35 assists while Rasmussen served three aces.
McCurdy posted 20 digs while Budd had 18 digs. Rasmussen added 17 digs.
Grove City will visit Washington & Jefferson Tuesday night in a quarterfinal-round match in the PAC Championship Tournament. Grove City is the No. 6 seed while W&J earned the third seed.
