W&J tops Grove City
WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Grove City College volleyball team concluded the 2008 season Tuesday night with a 25-14, 23-25, 25-13, 25-19 setback against No. 3 seed Washington & Jefferson in a quarterfinal-round match of the Presidents' Athletic Conference Championship Tournament at the Henry Memorial Center. Grove City, the sixth seed in the tournament, finishes the season with a 13-21 overall record.
Freshman Anna McCurdy (Guys Mills, Pa./Maplewood) paced Grove City with 13 kills. Sophomore Jodi Barry (Bridgeville, Pa./South Fayette), sophomore Becky Chapa (Westford, Mass./Westford Academy) and senior Natalie Liberati (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) all posted six kills. Freshman setter Annie Barry (Bridgeville, Pa./South Fayette) recorded 31 assists.
Defensively, sophomore Kim Budd (Hubbard, Ohio/Hubbard) recorded 13 digs while McCurdy added a dozen digs.
Liberati concludes her career as Grove City's all-time leader with 1,420 kills. W&J will face Thomas More Friday night in the conference semifinals at Westminster College.
