Wolverines go 1-1 at Behrend

ERIE, Pa. -- The Grove City College volleyball team opened play in the Penn State Behrend Invitational Friday afternoon by sweeping D'Youville at the Junker Center. Grove City earned a 25-18, 25-16, 25-7 win in the tournament opener. Friday night, the Wolverines (2-5) dropped a four-set decision to Roberts Wesleyan, 23-25, 25-20, 25-22, 25-22, in their second match of the tournament

Sophomore Anna McCurdy (Guys Mills, Pa./Maplewood) paced Grove City with 11 kills against D'Youville in the win while freshman Elisabeth Willits (Hatfield, Pa./North Penn) added eight kills. Sophomore setter Annie Barry (Bridgeville, Pa./South Fayette) distributed 27 assists and also served a season-high four aces.

Defensively, junior Inge Rasmussen (Darnestown, Md./Poolesville) racked up 12 digs while McCurdy had 10 digs. Junior Kim Budd (Hubbard, Ohio/Hubbard) collected nine digs. McCurdy also had three blocks.

McCurdy collected 12 kills against Roberts Wesleyan while sophomore Mary Masincup (Churchville, Va./Grace Christian), Rasmussen and Willits all had seven kills apiece. Barry tallied 33 assists.

Budd paced Grove City with 21 digs while McCurdy had 17. Barry and Rasmussen each posted a dozen digs.

Grove City will face Lycoming at 12:30 p.m. Saturday before meeting host Penn State Behrend at 2:30.
