Wolverines open PAC play with win
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College volleyball team opened Presidents' Athletic Conference play Wednesday night with a come-from-behind 16-25, 25-22, 26-24, 32-30 victory over visiting Bethany (7-3, 0-1 PAC) in the Grove City College Arena.
Grove City (4-6, 1-0) trailed 18-10 in the pivotal third set before charging back for the win. In the fourth set, the Wolverines rallied from a 24-22 hole to seal the win.
Sophomore Anna McCurdy (Guys Mills, Pa./Maplewood) led a balanced Grove City effort by recording 10 kills. Junior Inge Rasmussen (Darnestown, Md./Poolesville) collected eight kills while junior Jodi Barry (Bridgeville, Pa./South Fayette) and sophomore Mary Masincup (Churchville, Va./Grace Christian) both had seven kills each. Sophomore setter Annie Barry (Bridgeville, Pa./South Fayette) posted 30 assists.
Defensively, Jodi Barry posted a career-high 10 blocks while Rasmussen and freshman Elisabeth Willits (Hatfield, Pa./North Penn) both had six blocks each. Junior Kim Budd (Hubbard, Ohio/Hubbard) tallied a season-high 25 digs while Annie Barry had 18 digs. Rasmussen (16) and McCurdy (12) also reached double-digits in digs.
Grove City is now 8-3 in its last 11 conference openers. The Wolverines will return to action Saturday in a PAC tri-match at Chatham. Grove City faces Chatham at 11 a.m. before meeting Saint Vincent at 1 p.m.
