Wolverines split tri-match

BETHANY, W. Va. -- The Grove City College volleyball team concluded the 2009 regular season Saturday afternoon by splitting a tri-match at Bethany College's Hummel Field House. Grove City opened play with a 25-15, 25-8, 25-8 non-conference win over La Roche.

In the second match of the day for the Wolverines, Grove City fell to Presidents' Athletic Conference foe Bethany in three sets, 25-20, 25-9 and 25-15. Grove City (8-23, 4-10 PAC) will be the No. 6 seed in next week's PAC Championship Tournament

Sophomore Anna McCurdy (Guys Mills, Pa./Maplewood) paced Grove City with eight kills against La Roche while freshman Elisabeth Willits (Hatfield, Pa./North Penn) and junior Jodi Barry (Bridgeville, Pa./South Fayette) both had seven kills each. Sophomore setter Annie Barry (Bridgeville, Pa./South Fayette) had 19 assists. Sophomore Mary Masincup (Churchville, Va./Grace Christian) served a career-high five aces.

Junior libero Kim Budd (Hubbard, Ohio/Hubbard) had a team-high eight digs while Jodi Barry posted four blocks.

In Saturday's nightcap, McCurdy tallied six kills and Masincup added five kills. Annie Barry posted 16 assists.

Junior Inge Rasmussen (Darnestown, Md./Poolesville) recorded 15 digs while Budd added 10 digs.

Grove City will play in a PAC Tournament quarterfinal match Tuesday night at a site and time to be determined.
