Wolverines fall twice in tri-match

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College volleyball team owns a 1-3 Presidents' Athletic Conference record after dropping a pair of home matches Tuesday night in conference action at the Grove City College Arena. Grove City opened play Tuesday with a 25-16, 25-14, 23-25, 25-21 setback against visiting Westminster.

Saint Vincent then slipped past the Wolverines in four sets, 25-16, 25-17, 20-25, 25-16.

Sophomore Elisabeth Willits (Hatfield, Pa./North Penn) paced Grove City in the opener by recording a dozen kills. Freshmen Ashley Branch (Colorado Springs, Colo./Evangelical Christian) and Taylor Gerent (Westlake, Ohio/Christian Community) both posted seven kills.

Freshman setter Casey Schmidt (Woodbine, Md./Glenelg) recorded 33 assists.

Defensively, senior libero Kim Budd (Hubbard, Ohio/Hubbard) led Grove City with 25 digs and freshman Tara Skinner (Avon Lake, Ohio/Christian Community) added 16 digs. Branch had a pair of blocks.

Willits tallied nine kills in the nightcap against Saint Vincent. Freshman Shelby Mander (Dade City, Fla./Pasco) added seven kills. Schmidt distributed 28 assists. Schmidt and Skinner both served two aces each.

Budd led the Wolverines with 24 digs. Skinner (17), Schmidt (16) and Willits (11) also posted double-digit dig totals. Mander had three blocks.

Grove City will host conference foe Thiel Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
