Grove City splits tri-match

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Grove City College volleyball team went 1-1 in a Presidents' Athletic Conference tri-match at Washington & Jefferson College's Henry Memorial Center Saturday afternoon. The Wolverines opened play with a 25-21, 25-22, 25-18 setback against host W&J. Grove City rebounded to sweep Chatham, however, as the Wolverines secured a 29-27, 25-12, 25-22 victory over Chatham.

Sophomore Elisabeth Willits (Hatfield, Pa./North Penn) recorded eight kills against W&J while freshmen Ashley Branch (Colorado Springs, Colo./Evangelical Christian), Taylor Gerent (Westlake, Ohio/Christian Community) and Shelby Mander (Dade City, Fla./Pasco) all posted seven kills each.

Freshman setter Casey Schmidt (Woodbine, Md./Glenelg) tallied 28 assists for Grove City (5-12, 2-5 PAC). Junior Heather Good (Punxsutawney, Pa./Punxsutawney) collected 16 digs and senior Kim Budd (Hubbard, Ohio/Hubbard) totaled 13 digs.

Willits (16) and Branch (12) both posted double-digit kill totals in the sweep of Chatham. Schmidt chalked up 31 assists and Budd led the defense with 20 digs.

Grove City will host Thomas More Thursday night at 6:30 p.m. in conference action.
