W&J nips Grove City

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College volleyball team dropped a 25-13, 21-25, 25-21, 23-25, 16-14 decision to visiting Washington & Jefferson Tuesday night in Presidents' Athletic Conference action at the Grove City College Arena.

Grove City trailed 10-7 in the fifth set before rallying for a 14-14 tie. However, W&J pulled out the win.

Sophomore Elisabeth Willits (Hatfield, Pa./North Penn) paced the Wolverines with 18 kills and freshman Ashley Branch (Colorado Springs, Colo./Evangelical Christian) posted 11 kills. Freshman Shelby Mander (Dade City, Fla./Pasco) added eight kills.

Freshman setter Casey Schmidt (Woodbine, Md./Glenelg) distributed 43 assists and also served three aces.

Defensively, Branch recorded three blocks and Mander added two. Senior libero Kim Budd (Hubbard, Ohio/Hubbard) garnered 32 digs while Schmidt added 17. Freshman Tara Skinner (Avon Lake, Ohio/Christian Community) recorded 15 digs and junior Heather Good (Punxsutawney, Pa./Punxsutawney) added 11 digs.

Grove City (6-20, 3-11 PAC) had been 2-0 in five-set matches prior to Tuesday's setback. The Wolverines visit Geneva Thursday night at 7 p.m.
