Wolverines improve to 3-1
DELAWARE, Ohio -- The Grove City College volleyball team improved to 3-1 Saturday afternoon by earning two wins at the Ohio Wesleyan University Bishop Invitational. Grove City opened Saturday's play with a 25-16, 25-14, 25-13 victory over Earlham. The Wolverines then concluded the tournament by sweeping Ohio Wesleyan, 25-23, 25-21, 25-23.
Senior Mary Masincup (Churchville, Va./Grace Christian) and sophomore Ashley Branch (Colorado Springs, Colo./Evangelical Christian) each recorded eight kills against Earlham. Sophomore setter Casey Schmidt (Woodbine, Md./Glenelg) tallied 26 assists.
Defensively, sophomore Taylor Gerent (Westlake, Ohio/Christian Community) led the Grove City defense with 10 digs and senior Heather Good (Punxsutawney, Pa./Punxsutawney) added eight digs. Branch had three blocks.
Branch and Masincup also had a team-high eight kills each against Ohio Wesleyan. Schmidt posted 32 assists from her setter position.
Defensively, Branch racked up six blocks and Good tallied 15 digs.
The Wolverines' 3-1 start is their best since 2007. Grove City will visit Penn State Behrend Wednesday night at 7 p.m. in non-conference action.
