Grove City splits at Geneva

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. -- The Grove City College volleyball team opened Presidents' Athletic Conference action Saturday by splitting a tri-match at Geneva College. Host Geneva pulled out a 23-25, 25-22, 25-14, 25-19 win over the Wolverines (4-3, 1-1 PAC) in Saturday's opener. Grove City then bounced back for a 25-21, 27-25, 25-22 sweep of Waynesburg.

Junior Elisabeth Willits (Hatboro, Pa./North Penn) led the Wolverines with nine kills against Geneva while sophomore Ashley Branch (Colorado Springs, Colo./Evangelical Christian) recorded eight kills. Sophomore setter Casey Schmidt (Woodbine, Md./Glenelg) posted 33 assists.

Defensively, senior Heather Good (Punxsutawney, Pa./Punxsutawney) led four Wolverines with double-digit digs as she tallied 17. Sophomore Taylor Gerent (Westlake, Ohio/Christian Community) recorded 16 digs and classmate Tara Skinner (Avon Lake, Ohio/Christian Community) added 14 digs.

Senior Mary Masincup (Churchville, Va./Grace Christian) chalked up 13 digs. Freshman Dalaney Algiere (Grasonville, Md./Kent Island) led Grove City with four blocks.

Branch's seven kills led the Wolverines against Waynesburg. Schmidt doled out 34 assists.

Algiere and Branch both posted four blocks. Good led the defense with 18 digs and Gerent contributed 10 digs

Grove City will host Bethany Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. in the 2011 home opener.
