Grove City now 7-5

MEADVILLE, Pa. -- The Grove City College volleyball team split a pair of matches Saturday afternoon at the Allegheny College Invitational, finishing the tournament with a 3-1 record.

Host Allegheny pulled out a 25-15, 24-26, 25-21, 25-17 win over Grove City in the opener. However, Grove City (7-5) rebounded for a 25-18, 23-25, 25-21, 25-17 win over Pitt-Greensburg.

Senior Mary Masincup (Churchville, Va./Grace Christian) led Grove City with 12 kills against Pitt-Greensburg and sophomore Ashley Branch (Colorado Springs, Colo./Evangelical Christian) added 11 kills. Sophomore setter Casey Schmidt (Woodbine, Md./Glenelg) distributed 42 assists.

Defensively, Branch recorded eight blocks and freshman Dalaney Algiere (Grasonville, Md./Kent Island) added six block. Masincup had a team-high 28 digs while sophomore Taylor Gerent (Westlake, Ohio/Christian Community) and junior Elizabeth Mewha (Mystic, Conn./Fitch) both posted 15 digs.

Also for the Wolverines, Schmidt and senior Heather Good (Punxsutawney, Pa./Punxsutawney) each had 14 digs and sophomore Tara Skinner (Avon Lake, Ohio/Christian Community) tallied 13 digs.

Junior Elisabeth Willits (Hatboro, Pa./North Penn) paced Grove City with 17 kills against Allegheny while sophomore Shelby Mander (Dade City, Fla./Pasco) added 10 kills. Schmidt recorded 37 assists.

Good led Grove City with 19 digs while Skinner had 18 and Gerent added 15 digs. Branch and Schmidt both had five blocks.

Grove City will visit Thiel Tuesday night at 7 p.m. in Presidents' Athletic Conference play.
