Grove City splits tri-match

PITTSBURGH -- The Grove City College volleyball team moved to 8-7 overall and 2-4 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference Saturday by splitting a conference tri-match at Chatham University Saturday afternoon.

Grove City dropped a 25-14, 25-16, 25-15 decision to Thomas More in the opener but the Wolverines rebounded for a 25-5, 25-17, 25-15 win over Chatham in the final match of the afternoon.

Sophomore Shelby Mander (Dade City, Fla./Pasco) led Grove City with six kills against Thomas More while sophomore setter Casey Schmidt (Woodbine, Md./Glenelg) recorded 17 assists.

Defensively, senior Heather Good (Punxsutawney, Pa./Punxsutawney) posted 17 digs and sophomore Tara Skinner (Avon Lake, Ohio/Christian Community) had 13 digs. Schmidt and sophomore Ashley Branch (Colorado Springs, Colo./Evangelical Christian) both had three digs.

Sophomore Taylor Gerent (Westlake, Ohio/Christian Community) led Grove City with eight kills against Chatham. Schmidt had 17 assists and freshman Amy Collins (Landenberg, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) added a dozen assists.

Junior Elizabeth Mewha (Mystic, Conn./Fitch) led the defense with 14 digs. Skinner had eight digs while Good and freshman Frances Trenta (Hartville, Ohio/Lake) both had seven digs. Freshman Dalaney Algiere (Grasonville, Md./Kent Island) posted five blocks.

Grove City will host La Roche Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. in non-conference action.
