Grove City earns ECAC invitation

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College volleyball team has accepted an invitation to compete in the 2013 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Southwest Championship Tournament at Bethany College this Saturday.

The Wolverines (15-15 overall) will face Marymount (Va.) University (19-14) in one of the two semifinal matches. Bethany (28-10) will host McDaniel (19-7) in the other semifinal. The winners will meet for the championship while the other two squads will play in the third-place match. The tournament is unseeded.

Grove City will be making its first appearance in the postseason since 2001, when Grove City won the ECAC South title. Overall, it is the program's 14th all-time postseason invitation.

Grove City compiled an 8-10 record in Presidents' Athletic Conference play this season and fell to eventual conference champion Thomas More in the conference tournament quarterfinals.

Head coach Susan Roberts has compiled a 582-423 record in 29 years at Grove City. She will retire from the College at the end of the 2013-14 academic year. 

Arlington-based Marymount went 5-3 in the Capital Athletic Conference this season. The Saints defeated St. Mary's (Md.) in the opening round before falling to Christopher Newport in the conference semifinals.

Saturday's match will be the first meeting between Grove City and Marymount.

Bethany won the Presidents' Athletic Conference regular season title with a 17-1 conference record. The Bison fell to Thomas More in the conference finals Saturday afternoon. Bethany has won the ECAC Tournament three straight seasons.

McDaniel posted a 7-3 record in Centennial Conference action this season and advanced to the league's tournament semifinals.

Grove City won the ECAC title in 1994, 1995 and 2001. The Wolverines also qualified for the ECAC Tournament in 1996 and 2000, reaching the semifinal round.
