Grove City splits tri-match

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College volleyball team moved to 12-9 overall and 4-6 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference by going 1-1 in a conference tri-match Saturday afternoon in the Grove City College Arena.

The Wolverines opened Saturday with a 25-19, 25-18, 25-19 win over Washington & Jefferson. Grove City then dropped an 18-25, 25-13, 25-20, 25-19 decision to Saint Vincent in Saturday's finale.

Junior Elisabeth Willits (Hatfield, Pa./North Penn) paced Grove City with 11 kills against W&J while sophomore Shelby Mander (Dade City, Fla./Pasco) added six kills. Sophomore setter Casey Schmidt (Woodbine, Md./Glenelg) totaled 30 assists. Willits also served three aces.

Senior Heather Good (Punxsutawney, Pa./Punxsutawney) led the Wolverine defense with 17 digs while Willits added 10. Sophomore Ashley Branch (Colorado Springs, Colo./Evangelical Christian) recorded four blocks.

Willits tallied a team-high 12 kills against Saint Vincent while sophomore Taylor Gerent (Westlake, Ohio/Christian Community) added six kills. Schmidt distributed 27 assists.

Schmidt posted 20 digs while Good picked up 17 digs and sophomore Tara Skinner (Avon Lake, Ohio/Christian Community) recorded 16 digs. Branch led Grove City with five blocks. Willits and freshman Dalaney Algiere (Grasonville, Md./Kent Island) both had four blocks.

Grove City hosts Geneva Tuesday night at 6:30 in conference action.
