Wolverines secure split

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College volleyball team split a home tri-match Saturday in the Grove City College Arena. Grove City opened the day with a 20-25, 21-25, 25-14, 25-16, 15-3 setback against visiting Thomas More in Presidents' Athletic Conference action.

The Wolverines (13-12, 4-9 PAC) then bounced back for a 25-16, 25-17, 25-22 non-conference win over Hilbert.

Junior Elisabeth Willits (Hatboro, Pa./North Penn) led Grove City with 13 kills against Thomas More while sophomores Ashley Branch (Colorado Springs, Colo./Evangelical Christian) and Shelby Mander (Dade City, Fla./Pasco) both recorded 11 kills each.

Sophomore setter Casey Schmidt (Woodbine, Md./Glenelg) distributed 39 assists. Sophomore Tara Skinner (Avon Lake, Ohio/Christian Community) served three aces.

Senior Heather Good (Punxsutawney, Pa./Punxsutawney) and freshman Frances Trenta (Hartville, Ohio/Lake) each led Grove City's defense with 14 digs. Skinner tallied 13 digs and Willits contributed a dozen digs.

Thirteen different players saw action against Hilbert Saturday. Senior Mary Masincup (Churchville, Va./Grace Christian) led the Wolverines with nine kills and a career-high seven serving aces. Mander and Schmidt both had six kills each. Schmidt posted 19 assists.

Schmidt led the defense with nine digs and Masincup added eight digs. Branch had four blocks and freshman Dalaney Algiere (Grasonville, Md./Kent Island) added three blocks.

Grove City will visit conference foe Bethany Tuesday night at 7 p.m.
