Wolverines earn split on road

LATROBE, Pa. -- The Grove City College volleyball team closed the 2011 regular season Saturday by splitting a tri-match at Presidents' Athletic Conference foe Saint Vincent in the Carey Center. Grove City opened the day with a 25-20, 25-15, 25-7 setback against Saint Vincent. The Wolverines rebounded for a 25-20, 21-25, 25-19, 25-18 win over Penn State Fayette in non-league action Saturday afternoon.

Junior Elisabeth Willits (Hatboro, Pa./North Penn) paced the Wolverines (16-15) with 20 kills against Penn State Fayette and sophomore Ashley Branch (Colorado Springs, Colo./Evangelical Christian) added 13 kills. Senior Mary Masincup (Churchville, Va./Grace Christian) posted eight kills and sophomore Taylor Gerent (Westlake, Ohio/Christian Community) contributed seven kills.

Sophomore setter Casey Schmidt (Woodbine, Md./Glenelg) recorded 48 assists.

Defensively, senior Heather Good (Punxsutawney, Pa./Punxsutawney) led Grove City with 15 digs. Sophomore Tara Skinner (Avon Lake, Ohio/Christian Community) recorded 12 digs and Schmidt added 10. Branch and freshman Dalaney Algiere (Grasonville, Md./Kent Island) both had three blocks.

Branch, Masincup and Willits all had seven kills against Saint Vincent. Schmidt posted 23 assists. Good led the defense with 18 digs and Skinner tallied eight digs.

Grove City's 16-15 overall record is the Wolverines' best since the 2007 team went 20-12.
