Grove City goes 1-1 at OWU

DELAWARE, Ohio -- The Grove City College volleyball team split a pair of matches Saturday afternoon at Ohio Wesleyan University's Bishop Invitational. Grove City dropped a 26-24, 25-20, 25-18 decision to Earlham in Saturday's opener before rebounding for a 25-23, 23-25, 25-22, 25-19 victory over host Ohio Wesleyan.

Junior Ashley Branch (Colorado Springs, Colo./Evangelical Christian) led Grove City in its win over Ohio Wesleyan by recording a dozen kills. Senior Elisabeth Willits (Hatfield, Pa./North Penn) added 10 kills for the Wolverines (1-3).

Sophomore setter Amy Collins (Landenberg, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) recorded 24 assists and freshman Amy Trageser (Marriottsville, Md./Chapelgate Christian) added 17 assists.

Junior Tara Skinner (Avon Lake, Ohio/Christian Community) paced the defense with 19 digs and sophomore Frances Trenta (Hartville, Ohio/Uniontown Lake) added 15 digs. Freshman Christa Currier (Rifle, Colo./Coal Ridge) chalked up 11 blocks.

Branch led Grove City with 11 kills against Earlham and Willits contributed 10 kills. Collins had 24 assists and Trageser recorded 17 assists.

Skinner tallied a dozen digs and Trageser had eight digs. Branch had six blocks and junior Tierza Rangel (Houghton, N.Y./Fillmore Central) added four blocks.

Grove City will host Penn State Altoona Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. in the 2012 home opener.
