Wolverines sweep Penn State Altoona

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College volleyball team opened its 2012 home schedule Wednesday night with a 25-13, 25-19, 25-18 non-conference victory over visiting Penn State Altoona in the Grove City College Arena.

Senior Elisabeth Willits (Hatfield, Pa./North Penn) recorded a team-high 11 kills for Grove City (2-3) and freshman Natalija Galens (Covert, Mich./Grace Christian) added eight kills. Freshman setter Amy Trageser (Marriottsville, Md./Chapelgate Christian) recorded 14 assists and sophomore setter Amy Collins (Landenbeg, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) contributed a dozen assists.

Junior Ashley Branch (Colorado Springs, Colo./Evangelical Christian) served three aces and also paced the defense with seven blocks. Freshman Christa Currier (Rifle, Colo./Coal Ridge) tallied six blocks.

Junior libero Tara Skinner (Avon Lake, Ohio/Christian Community) had 17 digs and Willits contributed 12 digs.

The sweep marked Grove City's first 3-0 win in a home opener since September 13, 2006, when Grove City blanked Waynesburg.

Grove City will open Presidents' Athletic Conference play Saturday with a home tri-match against Thiel and Waynesburg. The Thiel match begins at 11 a.m., followed by the Waynesburg bout at 3 p.m.
