Wolverines earn split

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- The Grove City College volleyball team moved to 6-5 overall and 3-2 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference Saturday afternoon by splitting a conference tri-match at Westminster's Memorial Field House.

Grove City opened the day with a 26-24, 25-23, 25-15 setback against Westminster. However, the Wolverines rebounded for a 19-25, 25-17, 25-16, 26-24 victory over Saint Vincent.

Senior Elisabeth Willits (Hatfield, Pa./North Penn) led Grove City with 15 kills against Saint Vincent while juniors Ashley Branch (Colorado Springs, Colo./Evangelical Christian) and Tierza Rangel (Houghton, N.Y./Fillmore Central) both had 13 kills.

Freshman setter Amy Trageser (Marriottsville, Md./Chapelgate Christian) tallied 24 assists and sophomore Amy Collins (Landenberg, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) added 23 assists.

Junior libero Tara Skinner (Avon Lake, Ohio/Christian Community) chalked up 19 digs and sophomore Frances Trenta (Hartville, Ohio/Lake) contributed 18 digs.

Willits (13) and Branch (11) both posted double-digit kill totals in the opener against Westminster. Collins recorded 18 assists and Trageser added 12 assists. Skinner led the defense with 16 digs and Trenta finished with 11 digs. Branch and Rangel each had three blocks.

Grove City will host Washington & Jefferson Tuesday night in conference action at 6:30 p.m.
