Grove City rallies past W&J

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College volleyball team rallied for a 26-24, 25-27, 26-28, 25-14, 15-12 victory over visiting Washington & Jefferson Tuesday night in Presidents' Athletic Conference action at the Grove City College Arena.

Three Grove City players posted double-digit kill totals Tuesday night in the victory. Junior Tierza Rangel (Houghton, N.Y./Fillmore Central) paced the Wolverines (7-5, 4-2 PAC) with 14 kills while junior Ashley Branch (Colorado Springs, Colo./Evangelical Christian) added 11 kills. Senior Elisabeth Willits (Hatfield, Pa./North Penn) contributed 10 kills.

Junior Shelby Mander (Dade City, Fla./Pasco) and freshman Natalija Galens (Covert, Mich./Grace Christian) each had eight kills.

Sophomore setter Amy Collins (Landenberg, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) recorded 30 assists and freshman Amy Trageser (Marriottsville, Md./Chapelgate Christian) tallied 21 assists. Branch also served five aces.

Defensively, junior Tara Skinner (Avon Lake, Ohio/Christian Community) had a team-high 20 digs while sophomore Frances Trenta (Hartville, Ohio/Lake) chalked up 19 digs. Willits added 11 digs. Freshman Christa Currier (Rifle, Colo./Coal Ridge) recorded six blocks and Branch had five. Willits added four blocks while Rangel and Mander both had three.

It is Grove City's first five-set win at home since September 21, 2010, when the Wolverines secured a 3-2 win over Penn State Behrend.

Tuesday night's match had been scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m. but did not begin until 8:05 p.m. due to transportation issues.

Grove City will visit Bethany next Tuesday in conference action at 7 p.m.
