Wolverines drop two at York
YORK, Pa. -- The Grove City College volleyball team placed fourth at the eight-team York College (Pa.) Tournament Saturday afternoon. After going 2-0 in pool play Friday night, the Wolverines dropped a pair of matches Saturday. Grove City opened Saturday with a 25-12, 25-12, 25-19 setback against Stevenson in pool play. The Wolverines then dropped the third-place bout to Rowan, 25-22, 25-23, 19-25, 25-20.
Senior Elisabeth Willits (Hatfield, Pa./North Penn) and junior Ashley Branch (Colorado Springs, Colo./Evangelical Christian) each recorded 13 kills in Saturday's nightcap against Rowan. Sophomore setter Amy Collins (Landenberg, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) recorded 21 assists and freshman setter Amy Trageser (Marriottsville, Md./Chapelgate Christian) contributed 10 assists. Willits also served three aces.
Sophomore Frances Trenta (Hartville, Ohio/Lake) led the defense with 16 digs and junior Tara Skinner (Avon Lake, Ohio/Christian Community) added a dozen digs. Freshman Christa Currier (Rifle, Colo./Coal Ridge) registered four blocks.
Branch led Grove City with seven kills against Stevenson. Willits added six kills. Collins tallied 13 assists and Trageser added eight assists.
Trenta paced the defense with 10 digs and Skinner had seven digs. Junior Tierza Rangel (Houghton, N.Y./Fillmore Central) had three blocks.
Grove City (9-8 overall) will host Bethany Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m. in Presidents' Athletic Conference action.
