Grove City defeated host Alfred in the finals, 15-4, 15-10, 15-2. Earlier in the
day, GCC cruised past Clarkson, 15-4, 15-4, 15-1, then beat D'Youville in the semifinals,
15-7, 15-0, 15-8.
Senior Liz Sparks (Grove City, PA/Grove City) brought home the tournament's Most Valuable
Player trophy. Sparks recorded 36 kills and 12 blocks in nine games Saturday,
bringing her 15-game tournament averages to 4.27 kills and 1.47 blocks per game.
Senior Erin Mayne (Elyria, OH/Elyria) had 101 assists Saturday and 153 in the tourney (10.2 per game), while junior Nicole Hable (Shoreview, MN/Totino-Grace) posted 58 digs and 89 in the 15 games (5.93 per game). Freshman Julie Porter (Medina, OH/Highland) had 20 kills in Saturday's action.
The Lady Wolverines, 11-3 overall, have won six straight matches and 20 consecutive games. They play at Allegheny next Tuesday, September 22, at 7:00 p.m.
