Grove City charges past W&J, completing season sweep

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Grove City College volleyball team completed a season sweep of Presidents' Athletic Conference rival Washington & Jefferson Tuesday night as the visiting Wolverines earned a 25-13, 25-22, 19-25, 25-20 over W&J at the Henry Memorial Center.

Junior Shelby Mander (Dade City, Fla./Pasco) led Grove City (10-11, 5-6 PAC) with 11 kills and junior Ashley Branch (Colorado Springs, Colo./Evangelical Christian) contributed 10 kills. Sophomore setter Amy Collins (Landenberg, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) recorded 22 assists and freshman setter Amy Trageser (Marriottsville, Md./Chapelgate Christian) chalked up 18 assists.

Defensively, Branch and freshman Stephanie Althausen (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) both had five blocks each. Junior libero Tara Skinner (Avon Lake, Ohio/Christian Community) led Grove City with 15 digs and sophomore Frances Trenta (Hartville, Ohio/Lake) tallied 13 digs.

Earlier this season, Grove City earned a five-set home win over W&J September 18 in the Grove City College Arena. The Wolverines have won four straight against W&J.

Grove City will host Saint Vincent Thursday at 6:30 p.m. in conference action at the Grove City College Arena.
