Grove City falls in tournament quarterfinals
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College volleyball team dropped a 25-14, 25-21, 25-21 decision at Bethany Tuesday night in the quarterfinal round of the 2012 Presidents' Athletic Conference Championships at Hummel Field House. No. 3 seed Bethany will now face second-seeded Thiel in the semifinals Friday at Thomas More College. Sixth-seeded Grove City closes the season with a 14-17 overall record.
Elisabeth Willits (Hatfield, Pa./North Penn), the lone senior on the 2012 Grove City roster, led the Wolverines with nine kills and junior Shelby Mander (Dade City, Fla./Pasco) added six kills.
Sophomore setter Amy Collins (Landenberg, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) recorded 14 assists and freshman setter Amy Trageser (Marriottsville, Md./Chapelgate Christian) tallied eight assists.
Defensively, junior Tara Skinner (Avon Lake, Ohio/Christian Community) posted 12 digs and sophomore Frances Trenta (Hartville, Ohio/Lake) chalked up seven digs. Junior Ashley Branch (Colorado Springs, Colo./Evangelical Christian) had a team-high three blocks.
Bethany also won each of the two regular-season meetings between the teams.
