Grove City splits at OWU

DELAWARE, Ohio -- The Grove City College volleyball team split a pair of matches Saturday at the Ohio Wesleyan University Bishop Invitational. Grove City opened the day with a 20-25, 25-12, 25-18, 25-22 victory over Wilmington. The Wolverines then dropped a 25-15, 23-25, 25-22, 25-22 decision to Ohio Wesleyan (3-0) in Saturday's second match.

Senior Ashley Branch (Colorado Springs, Colo./Evangelical Christian) paced Grove City with 16 kills in the opener while sophomore Natalija Galens (Covert, Mich./Grace Christian) added nine kills. Junior setter Amy Collins (Landenberg, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) recorded 27 assists and sophomore Amy Trageser (Marriottsville, Md./Chapelgate Christian) added 10 assists.

Senior Tara Skinner (Avon Lake, Ohio/Christian Community) led the defense with 19 digs while junior Frances Trenta (Hartville, Ohio/Lake) contributed 14 digs. Branch and freshman Rachel Metz (Elma, N.Y./Iroquois) both had four blocks.

Branch (15) and Galens (13) both posted double-digit kill efforts against Ohio Wesleyan. Collins posted 23 assists and Trageser added 16 assists.

Skinner tallied 19 digs while Trenta totaled 16 digs. Branch had five blocks and Galens recorded three blocks.

Grove City (2-1) returns to action next Friday at the Marietta College Tournament. The Wolverines will face Ohio Valley and Transylvania in the opening night of competition.
