Wolverines fall at Marietta

MARIETTA, Ohio -- The Grove City College volleyball team dropped a pair of matches Friday evening in the Marietta College Tournament at Ban Johnson Field House. Grove City (2-3) opened the tournament with a 21-25, 25-18, 19-25, 25-21, 15-7 setback against Ohio Valley.

In the second match of the night, Grove City dropped a 25-14, 25-23, 25-20 decision to Transylvania.

Sophomore Natalija Galens (Covert, Mich./Grace Christian) paced Grove City with 11 kills against Ohio Valley and senior Shelby Mander (Dade City, Fla./Pasco) added 10 kills.

Junior setter Amy Collins (Landenberg, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) recorded 25 assists and sophomore Amy Trageser (Marriottsville, Md./Chapelgate Christian) added 14 assists. Senior Tara Skinner (Avon Lake, Ohio/Christian Community) led the defense with 17 digs and Galens added 16 digs.

Seniors Ashley Branch (Colorado Springs, Colo./Evangelical Christian) and Tierza Rangel (Houghton, N.Y./Fillmore Central) both had three blocks.

Branch, Galens and Mander all had five kills against Transylvania. Collins had eight assists and Trageser tallied six assists. Galens posted 16 digs while Skinner recorded 12 digs. Branch had three blocks.

Grove City will face Marietta Saturday at 12:30 p.m. The Wolverines will close the weekend with a 2 p.m. against Frostburg State.
