Wolverines open league play with win
GREENVILLE, Pa. -- The Grove City College volleyball team opened Presidents' Athletic Conference play Wednesday night with a 25-22, 23-25, 25-15, 25-11 victory over host Thiel at Rissell-Beeghley Gymnasia.
Senior Tierza Rangel (Houghton, N.Y./Fillmore Central) recorded 13 kills for Grove City (4-4, 1-0 PAC) and classmate Ashley Branch (Colorado Springs, Colo./Evangelical Christian) added 12 kills. Junior setter Amy Collins (Landenberg, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) recorded 22 assists and sophomore Amy Trageser (Marriottsville, Md./Chapelgate Christian) contributed 13 assists.
Collins and Trageser both served two aces.
Defensively, senior Tara Skinner (Avon Lake, Ohio/Christian Community) led Grove City with 28 digs and sophomore Natalija Galens (Covert, Mich./Grace Christian) tallied 14 digs. Freshman Rachel Metz (Elma, N.Y./Iroquois) posted five blocks and Rangel had four blocks.
Grove City will visit Geneva Saturday for a conference tri-match. The Wolverines face Waynesburg at 1 p.m. before meeting Geneva at 3 p.m.
