Grove City splits tri-match

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. -- The Grove City College volleyball team moved to 2-1 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference Saturday afternoon by splitting a conference tri-match at Geneva College's Metheny Field House.

Grove City opened the day with a 25-23, 25-18, 25-16 triumph over Waynesburg. Geneva then downed Grove City 25-21, 25-11, 20-25, 25-12 in the final match of the afternoon.

Senior Ashley Branch (Colorado Springs, Colo./Evangelical Christian) chalked up 15 kills against Waynesburg and sophomore Natalija Galens (Covert, Mich./Grace Christian) contributed nine kills. Sophomore setter Amy Trageser (Marriottsville, Md./Chapelgate Christian) recorded 29 assists.

Senior Tara Skinner (Avon Lake, Ohio/Christian Community) paced the defense with 17 digs and junior Frances Trenta (Hartville, Ohio/Lake) added 14 digs.

Branch posted 16 kills in the Geneva match while senior Tierza Rangel (Houghton, N.Y./Fillmore Central) posted seven kills. Rangel also served two aces. Trageser distributed a season-high 31 assists.

Skinner recorded 22 digs and Trenta added 14 digs.

Grove City (5-5 overall) will open its home schedule Tuesday night against conference foe Bethany. The match will begin at 6:30 p.m.
