Grove City splits tri-match

PITTSBURGH -- The Grove City College volleyball team moved to 3-3 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference Saturday by splitting a conference tri-match at Chatham University.

Grove City (9-7 overall) opened the day with a 25-8, 27-25, 25-13 setback against Thomas More. The Wolverines rebounded for a 25-12, 25-13, 25-17 win over Chatham in Saturday's final match, however.

Senior Tierza Rangel (Houghton, N.Y./Fillmore Central) led Grove City with 11 kills against Chatham and senior Ashley Branch (Colorado Springs, Colo./Evangelical Christian) had eight kills.

Junior setter Amy Collins (Landenberg, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) recorded 19 assists and sophomore Amy Trageser (Marriottsville, Md./Chapelgate Christian) added eight assists. Collins also served a career-high five aces.

Defensively, senior Tara Skinner (Avon Lake, Ohio/Christian Community) collected 15 digs and junior Hannah Liermann (Manor, Pa./Hempfield) had seven digs.

Rangel, senior Shelby Mander (Dade City, Fla./Pasco) and sophomore Natalija Galens (Covert, Mich./Grace Christian) all had four kills against Thomas More. Collins collected seven assists and Trageser had six.

Skinner led the defense with 13 digs and Galens posted nine digs.

Grove City hosts Westminster Thursday at 6:30 p.m. in conference action.
