Grove City sweeps tri-match

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College volleyball team improved to 6-4 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference Saturday afternoon by earning a pair of home wins at the Grove City College Arena. Grove City (12-8 overall) opened the day with a 25-19, 26-24, 25-18 victory over Washington & Jefferson.

In Saturday's nightcap, the Wolverines rallied for an 18-25, 12-25, 26-24, 25-20, 17-15 victory over Saint Vincent (11-11, 5-5).

Senior Tierza Rangel (Houghton, N.Y./Fillmore Central) paced Grove City against W&J by recording 13 kills. Junior setter Amy Collins (Landenberg, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) and sophomore setter Amy Trageser (Marriottsville, Md./Chapelgate Christian) both had 15 assists.

Senior Tara Skinner (Avon Lake, Ohio/Christian Community) led the defense with 19 digs and junior Frances Trenta (Hartville, Ohio/Lake) contributed 16 digs. Rangel and senior Ashley Branch (Colorado Springs, Colo./Evangelical Christian) tallied four blocks each. Sophomore Elisabeth Casey (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton North) added three blocks.

Branch collected 14 kills in the comeback win over Saint Vincent while Casey had 11 kills. Junior Dalaney Algiere (Grasonville, Md./Kent Island) chalked up 10 kills. Collins had 27 assists while Trageser had 20 assists.

Skinner had 31 digs and Casey had 13 digs. Branch had 12 digs, junior Hannah Liermann (Manor, Pa./Hempfield) totaled 11 digs and Trageser finished with 10 digs.

Algiere posted six blocks and freshman Rachel Metz (Elma, N.Y./Iroquois) added four blocks.

Grove City is 3-1 in five-set matches this year. The Wolverines will host Geneva Tuesday night in conference play at 6:30 p.m.
