Wolverines earn split

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- The Grove City College volleyball team went 1-1 in a tri-match Thursday night in a tri-match at Westminster College's Memorial Field House. Grove City opened the night with a 25-11, 25-22, 25-8 setback against Westminster in Presidents' Athletic Conference action.

However, Grove City rebounded for a 25-22, 25-22, 18-25, 25-20 non-conference win over Franciscan.

Senior Ashley Branch (Colorado Springs, Colo./Evangelical Christian) led the Wolverines with 11 kills against Franciscan while classmates Shelby Mander (Dade City, Fla./Pasco) and Tierza Rangel (Houghton, N.Y./Fillmore Central) both had seven kills.

Junior Amy Collins (Landenberg, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) distributed 21 assists and sophomore Amy Trageser (Marriottsville, Md./Chapelgate Christian) added 15 assists.

Senior Tara Skinner (Avon Lake, Ohio/Christian Community) tallied a team-high 30 digs while sophomore Elisabeth Casey (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton North) added 16 digs. Branch had five blocks and junior Dalaney Algiere (Grasonville, Md./Kent Island) totaled four blocks.

Rangel and Mander both had six kills against Westminster. Collins posted 10 assists while Trageser had seven assists. Branch served two aces.

Skinner led the defense with 15 digs while Casey contributed nine. Algiere had four blocks.

Grove City (13-10, 6-6 PAC) hosts Thomas More Saturday night in conference action at 6 p.m.
