Thomas More ousts Grove City

CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. -- The Grove City College volleyball dropped a 29-27, 25-12, 25-9 decision at third-seeded Thomas More Tuesday night in the quarterfinal round of the Presidents' Athletic Conference Championship Tournament at the Connor Convocation Center.

Grove City, the No. 6 seed, concludes the 2013 season with a 15-15 overall record. Thomas More (22-5) will face No. 2 Geneva Friday in the semifinals at Bethany College.

Senior Ashley Branch (Colorado Springs, Colo./Evangelical Christian) led Grove City with six kills while senior Tierza Rangel (Houghton, N.Y./Fillmore Central) added five kills.

Sophomore Amy Trageser (Marriottsville, Md./Chapelgate Christian) recorded eight assists and junior Amy Collins (Landenberg, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) added seven assists. Trageser also served a pair of aces.

Junior Frances Trenta (Hartville, Ohio/Lake) led the defense with 13 digs. Sophomore Natalija Galens (Covert, Mich./Grace Christian) recorded a dozen digs. Junior Dalaney Algiere (Grasonville, Md./Kent Island) posted three blocks.

Grove City will lose Branch, Rangel, senior Shelby Mander (Dade City, Fla./Pasco) and senior Tara Skinner (Avon Lake, Ohio/Christian Community) to graduation.

Tuesday's match also marked the final match for head coach Susan Roberts, who will retire at the end of 2013-14 academic year. Roberts compiled a 582-423 record in 29 years as Grove City head coach. She also coached women's basketball (1985-93) and softball (1994-98) at the College and is the school's all-time leader with 749 total coaching victories.
