Grove City whips Quakers
DELAWARE, Ohio -- The Grove City College volleyball team commenced the 2014 season Friday evening by earning a 25-21, 25-14, 24-26, 25-12 victory over Earlham in the opening match of Ohio Wesleyan University's Bishop Invitational.
Freshman Jamie Robatisin (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) paced Grove City with 18 kills in her collegiate debut and junior Dalaney Algiere (Grasonville, Md./Kent Island) added six kills. Junior setter Amy Trageser (Marriottsville, Md./Chapelgate Christian) recorded 34 assists for the Wolverines (1-0).
Junior Stephanie Althausen (Asheville, N.C./Asheville Christian) served a career-high five aces and senior Frances Trenta (Hartville, Ohio/Lake) added three aces.
Trenta led the defense with 17 digs while junior Natalija Galens (Covert, Mich./Grace Christian) posted 11 digs. Trageser added 10 digs. Algiere notched seven blocks and Robatisin contributed six blocks.
The win is the first recorded by first-year Grove City head coach Erin Street.
Grove City continues play Saturday at Ohio Wesleyan with a pair of morning matches. The Wolverines face Wilmington at 9 a.m. before playing Ohio Wesleyan at 11 a.m.
