Grove City falls to Saint Vincent in five
LATROBE, Pa. -- The Grove City College volleyball team dropped a hard-fought five set match at Presidents' Athletic Conference foe Saint Vincent on Thursday night at the Carey Center. The Wolverines (9-6, 2-2 PAC) fell in set scores of 25-19, 21-25, 25-20, 9-25, 15-11.
Junior Natalija Galens (Covert, Mich./Grace Christian) led Grove City with 13 kills and added 11 digs while senior Dalaney Algiere (Grasonville, Md./Kent Island) posted seven kills on just 14 attempts and a career-high 10 blocks. Junior Stephanie Althausen (Asheville, N.C./Asheville Christian) and freshman Jamie Robatisin (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) recorded nine and eight kills, respectively.
Junior setter Amy Trageser (Marriottsville, Md./Chapelgate Christian) recorded 38 assists while senior Frances Trenta (Hartville, Ohio/Lake) posted a team-high 24 digs.
Saint Vincent (10-5, 2-2) led by as much as 10 points in the first set before a late Grove City rally closed the final deficit to 25-19. After the Wolverines rebounded with a 25-21 victory to even the match at a set apiece, the Bearcats overcame a 10-7 Grove City advantage to take the third set 25-20.
The Wolverines dominated the fourth set with a 25-9 win to send the match into a decisive fifth set, but Saint Vincent held Grove City off for a 15-11 victory to take the match.
Tonight's match marks the third-straight time that Grove City and Saint Vincent have played a five-set match. The two teams split a pair of 3-2 decisions last year, with each team winning on its home court.
Grove City returns to action on Tuesday, hosting Bethany in conference play at 6:30 p.m.
