Wolverines to host "Dig for the Cure" event Saturday
GROVE CITY, Pa. --
The Grove City
College volleyball team is hosting their 2014 “Dig for the Cure” event on
Saturday, October 11, 2014 when they host conference rivals Thomas More College
and Washington & Jefferson College in a tri-match in the Grove City College
Arena. The Wolverines will take on Thomas More at 11 a.m. followed by a 1 p.m.
match between Thomas More and W&J. The official Dig for the Cure match between
Grove City and W&J will take place at 3 p.m.
All proceeds will go directly to the Pennsylvania Breast
Cancer Coalition (PBCC). Founded in June of 1993, the PBCC is an organized
statewide non-profit designed to extend public awareness of breast cancer, and
to encourage increased public and private funding for research, legislative
advocacy and high quality screening, diagnosis and treatment.
For more information about the Coalition, please visit their website:
http://www.pabreastcancer.org/
Leading up to the
Dig for the Cure event and throughout the day during the tri-match, members of
the team will be accepting donations and pledges per dig for the PBCC. The
Wolverines average about 20 digs per set and a match is the best of five sets;
therefore, the dig total could be anywhere between 60-100 digs for the entire
match. The dig total will be tallied and
announced at the end of the 3 p.m. match so anyone that donated a pledge per dig
will know the amount to be donated to the PBCC.
Fans not wishing to pledge per dig can also make a flat donation before,
during, or after the game.
Along with the
pledges to raise money, fans will also be able to partake in a serving contest
between the second and third sets of the 3 p.m. match. For any dollar amount (at
least $1 please), fans will have the chance to serve from behind the serving
line. Prizes will be placed on the floor and any serve that hits a prize will
win that prize.
The team will also honor any breast cancer
survivors and/or those currently battling the disease in attendance by welcoming
them onto the court and announcing their names. Any survivors that plan to
attend the match can contact Coach Erin Street before the match at the contact
information below.
To make a pledge per dig before the match, see
any member of the volleyball team or contact Coach Street.
