Grove City tops Trine at Mount Union tourney

ALLIANCE, Ohio -- The Grove City College volleyball team earned its first victory of the 2015 season Saturday afternoon by earning a 25-17, 25-20, 25-19 victory over Trine in the final match of the weekend at the Mount Union Purple Raider Invitational.

Earlier Saturday, the Wolverines dropped a 25-20, 25-19, 25-20 decision to Denison.

Freshman Laura Buchanan (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) posted a team-high 10 kills against Trine while senior Libbie Casey (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton North) added nine kills on just 11 attacks. Senior setter Amy Trageser (Marriottsville, Md./Chapelgate Christian) recorded 14 assists and freshman setter Allie Schmid (Beaver, Pa./Beaver) tallied eight assists. Schmid also served three aces.

Buchanan led the defense with three blocks. Senior Natalija Galens (Covert, Mich./Grace Christian) recorded a team-leading seven digs in the victory.

Buchanan also had 10 kills in Saturday's opener against Denison while Galens added seven kills. Trageser tallied 16 assists and Schmid totaled eight assists. Sophomore Jamie Robatisin (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) served a season-high four aces.

Senior Jessica Althausen (Asheville, N.C./Asheville Christian) led the Wolverine defense with a dozen digs. Casey contributed three blocks.

Grove City visits Allegheny in non-conference action Wednesday at 7 p.m. in Meadville.
