Wolverines fall at Allegheny

MEADVILLE, Pa. -- The Grove City College volleyball team was unable to overcome a slow start on Wednesday evening, falling to Allegheny 3-0 in non-conference action inside the Wise Center.

After falling 25-12 in the first set, the Wolverines (1-5) battled with the Gators (4-2) through several extra points and long rallies before falling 32-30 in set two. Grove City would then lead 15-9 in the third set before Allegheny rallied for a 25-21 victory.

Senior outside hitter Natalija Galens (Covert, Mich./Grace Christian) led all players with 11 kills and also added 15 digs while freshman Laura Buchanan (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) added eight kills.

Junior Jessica Althausen (Asheville, N.C./Asheville Christian) led the Wolverines defensively with a career-high 24 digs while sophomore Jamie Robatisin (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) added 21 digs and a pair ofo service aces. Freshman setter Allie Schmid (Beaver, Pa./Beaver) posted 15 assists and 17 digs while senior setter Amy Trageser (Marriottsville, Md./Chapelgate Christian) recorded 12 assists and 15 digs.

As a team, the Wolverines committed 35 attack errors while managing just 34 kills.

Grove City opens its 2015 Presidents' Athletic Conference schedule on Saturday afternoon, playing in a tri-match at Chatham. The Wolverines face off against defending conference champion Thomas More at 2 p.m. before playing the host Cougars at 4 p.m.
