Grove City splits conference twinbill

PITTSBURGH -- The Grove City College volleyball team moved to 1-1 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference Saturday afternoon by splitting a conference tri-match at Chatham University. The Wolverines opened play with a 25-18, 25-16, 25-17 setback against Thomas More. Grove City rebounded, however, to earn a 25-17, 25-9, 25-6 victory over host Chatham.

Sophomore Makayli Terwilliger (Emlenton, Pa./A-C Valley) paced Grove City with a season-high six kills against Chatham while sophomore Jamie Robatisin (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) and senior Natalija Galens (Covert, Mich./Grace Christian) both had five kills.

Sophomore setter Alicia VanDerhoof (Waterford, Mich./Christian Leadership) recorded 11 assists and senior Amy Trageser (Marriottsville, Md./Chapelgate Christian) added nine assists.

Sophomore Beka Russell (North Canton, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) led the defense with 11 digs. Robatisin recorded four blocks while VanDerhoof and senior Libbie Casey (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton North) both had three blocks.

Freshman Laura Buchanan (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) led Grove City (2-6, 1-1) with eight kills against Thomas More while Casey collected six kills. Freshman Allie Schmid (Beaver, Pa./Beaver) posted a dozen assists while Trageser added 11 assists.

Galens' 17 digs led the defense. Robatisin contributed 14 digs.

The Wolverines open their home schedule Wednesday night at 7 p.m. against conference foe Saint Vincent.
