Wolverines win home opener
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College volleyball team opened its 2015 home schedule Wednesday night by pulling out a 26-24, 25-21, 22-25, 26-24 Presidents' Athletic Conference victory over Saint Vincent at the Grove City College Arena.
Sophomore Hannah Foster (Sugarcreek, Ohio/Garaway) led Grove City (3-6, 2-1 PAC) with 11 kills while freshman Laura Buchanan (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) added 10 kills. Senior Natalija Galens (Covert, Mich./Grace Christian) recorded eight kills.
Freshman setter Allie Schmid (Beaver, Pa./Beaver) posted 23 assists for the Wolverines and senior Amy Trageser (Marriottsville, Md./Chapelgate Christian) contributed 19 assists.
Galens led the defense with 15 digs. Schmid, junior Jessica Althausen (Asheville, N.C./Asheville Christian) and sophomore Jamie Robatisin (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) all tallied 11 digs. Sophomore Ariella Carter (Avon, Ohio/Hearts for Jesus Christ) and senior Libbie Casey (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton North) both tallied three blocks.
Two streaks came to an end Wednesday night. Prior to Wednesday's match, each of the four previous Grove City-Saint Vincent matches had gone to five sets. Additionally, each of Grove City's 14 previous matches overall had been decided in three sets.
Grove City will compete in the Ohio Wesleyan University Bishop Invitational Friday and Saturday in Delaware, Ohio.
