Wolverines fall to Bethany, down Franciscan in tri-match
BETHANY, W.Va. -- The Grove City College volleyball team split a tri-match hosted by Presidents' Athletic Conference foe Bethany on Saturday afternoon inside Hummel Field House. The Wolverines fell to Bethany 25-16, 25-21, 26-24 before rebounding with a three-set, non-conference win over Franciscan by scores of 25-21, 25-23, 25-20.
Freshman Laura Buchanan (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) led Grove City (12-15, 8-6 PAC) in the opener against Bethany (21-8, 11-3) with a team-high 12 kills while senior Natalija Galens (Covert, Mich./Grace Christian) added eight kills and nine digs and senior setter Amy Trageser (Marriottsville, Md./Chapelgate Christian) dished out 17 assists.
Sophomore libero Beka Russell (North Canton, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) tallied a team-best 11 digs to lead the Wolverine defense while sophomore Ariella Carter (Avon, Ohio/Hearts For Jesus Christ) posted a match-high four blocks to go with her four kills.
Sophomore Jamie Robatisin (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) posted a match-best three service aces.
Against Franciscan (9-14), Buchanan led the Wolverines once again with 10 kills while Galens posted nine kills and tied for the team lead with 18 digs. Russell matched Galens with 18 digs to go along with a match-high four service aces while Trageser posted 22 assists and 11 digs. Robatisin chipped in with eight kills and 10 digs.
Grove City will host Chatham in conference action on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
