GCC Captures PAC's Top Seed With Sweep GROVE CITY, PA, October 19, 1999--The Grove City College women's volleyball team secured the number one seed at next week's Presidents' Athletic Conference Championship Tournament with a 15-11, 17-15, 15-5 sweep over visiting Washington & Jefferson College Tuesday. The Lady Wolverines closed their regular-season PAC slate at 6-2, while W&J slipped to 5-2 with one match to play. In the event of a tie, GCC would win the tiebreaker, having won five games in the two-match series, compared to W&J's three. The Presidents won the first meeting on October 9 in Washington, 15-11, 11-15, 10-15, 15-9, 15-8. Cara Denniston (Grove City, PA/Grove City) recorded 34 assists in the sweep, while Julie Porter (Medina, OH/Highland) posted a team-high 14 kills. Laura Goll (Strongsville, OH/Strongsville) contributed four aces. Seniors Heater Oates (Delavan, IL/Delavan) and Laura Lemire (Jefferson, OH/Jefferson), honored prior to the match in a Senior Night ceremony, played flawlessly from their back row posts. Grove City improved to 14-12 overall, while W&J dropped to 12-17. The PAC Championship Tournament will be staged Friday and Saturday, October 29-30, at GCC. |
