Grove City Takes Second at PAC Tourney

October 31, 1998--The Grove City College women's volleyball team advanced to the Championship Match of the Presidents' Athletic Conference Tournament with a 3-0 (15-11, 15-7, 15-5) win over host Waynesburg College, but had to settle for second place after falling to Washington & Jefferson in the final, 0-3 (6-15, 13-15, 4-15).   The title marked the third straight for W&J, who improved to 28-3 overall.

The Lady Wolverines, who closed at 19-13 overall, were led by senior Liz Sparks (Grove City, PA/Grove City), who recorded 10 kills against Waynesburg and 11 kills against W&J.  Junior Nicole Hable (Shoreview, MN/Totino-Grace) had 29 digs in the two matches.

Freshman Julie Porter (Medina, OH/Highland) showed eight kills and senior Emily Bintz (Rochester, NY/Our Lady of Mercy) had three blocks in the semis, while senior Erin Mayne (Elyria, OH/Elyria) boasted 34 assists and sophomore Krista Summers (Staunton, VA/Grace Christian) had three blocks in the title match.
