Lady Wolverines claim Tip-Off 2000 title
GROVE CITY, PA, November 18, 2000--Tournament MVP Stephanie Murphy (Munroe Falls, OH/Stow-Munroe Falls) poured in a game-high 19 points as the Lady Wolverines defeated Walsh University, 60-49, in the championship game of the Howard Johnson Tip-Off 2000.
Murphy nailed nine of 10 shots from the free-throw line and hit two of three from outside the three-point arc. The 5-5 junior point guard added three rebounds and a steal.
Junior guard Kristy Kegg (Johnstown, PA/Ferndale) scored 12 points on 4-for-6 shooting and grabbed five rebounds. Kegg and junior forward Livia Wright (Economy, PA/Ambridge) earned spots on the All-Tournament Team. Wright, who spent most of Saturday in foul trouble, fired in 16 points on 7-for-7 shooting in Friday's 53-48 first-round win over Point Park.
Sophomore forward Cara Denniston (Grove City, PA/Grove City) added seven points and three assists, while sophomore forward Jessica Jenkins (Conneautville, PA/Cambridge Springs) chipped in with five boards and four steals.
The Lady Wolverines jumped out to a 34-16 halftime lead, holding the Cavaliers to 22% shooting (6-27) through the first 20 minutes.
