Lady Wolverines win third with three

GROVE CITY, PA, November 29, 2000--Junior Kristy Kegg (Johnstown, PA/Ferndale) drilled a game-winning three-pointer with 17 seconds left in regulation as the Lady Wolverines dealt visiting Carnegie Mellon its first loss of the season Wednesday, 57-54.

Grove City (3-1) built on a four-point halftime edge, leading by as many as eight with under seven minutes remaining.  However, Carnegie Mellon (4-1) chipped away and took its first lead of the second half on Michelle Sodini's three-pointer with 26 seconds left, putting the Tartans ahead, 54-52.  Kegg, who had hit just two of 10 shots from the floor, countered with a three on Grove City's next possession and sophomore Cara Denniston (Grove City, PA/Grove City) iced the victory with a pair of free throws with five ticks showing.

Senior Kristina Dixon (Smethport, PA/Smethport) scored a team-high 14 points for the Lady Wolverines, who overcame 37.7% shooting from the floor.   Kegg tallied nine points and tied sophomore Jessica Jenkins (Conneautville, PA/Cambridge Springs) for high-rebound honors with five boards.  Sophomore Christy Faller (Ijamsville, MD/Urbana) recorded eight points and three steals in 16 minutes of action.

CMU, held to 35.5% shooting, was led by Erin Brady's 16 points.

The game marked a rematch of last year's ECAC Southern Championship Game, won by the Lady Tartans, 66-54.
