Lady Wolverines off to best start in 18 years
GROVE CITY, PA, December 2, 2000--Junior Stephanie Murphy (Munroe Falls, OH/Stow-Munroe Falls) drilled three 3-pointers in the first half and added two clutch free throws and a steal in the final minute as Grove City defeated visiting Pitt-Greensburg, 48-42. The Lady Wolverines improved to 4-1 overall -- their best start since the 1982-83 season when they opened 10-0.
Murphy finished with a game-high 11 points, while junior Kristy Kegg (Johnstown, PA/Ferndale) and sophomore Jessica Jenkins (Conneautville, PA/Cambridge Springs) paced the Lady Wolverines on the glass with nine and eight rebounds, respectively. Junior T.L. Thompson (Girard, PA/Girard) contributed nine points and four boards.
Nicole Kushner netted a team-high nine points for Pitt-Greensburg, who fell to 3-3.
Grove City escaped with the victory despite being outshot 40% to 34% and outrebounded by a narrow 34-33 margin.
The Lady Wolverines are unbeaten in their first four
home games this season and have won six straight at the College Arena dating back to last
year. They host Pitt-Bradford next Wednesday at 6:00 p.m.
