Lady Wolverines knock-off Allegheny, 70-65
MEADVILLE, PA, December 9, 2000--The Grove City College women's basketball team extended its winning streak to four and improved to 6-1 on the season with a 70-65 win over host Allegheny College, who fell to 7-2.
The Lady Wolverines rallied from an early 11-4 deficit to lead 30-28 at halftime and never trailed the rest of the way. They led by as many as 16 points, 50-34, at 9:02 of the second half.
Junior Stephanie Murphy (Munroe Falls, OH/Stow-Munroe Falls) scored a team-high 18 points, while senior Kristina Dixon (Smethport, PA/Smethport) and sophomore Christy Faller (Ijamsville, MD/Urbana) chipped in with 10 points each. Murphy added a team-best six rebounds and junior T.L. Thompson (Girard, PA/Girard) recorded five assists.
Grove City shot 44% from the floor and 74%
from the line, hitting 17 of 23 free throws in the second half. Allegheny,
held to 36% shooting in the game, was led by Alyssa Hinkle's 18 points.
