Grove City rallies past Juniata, wins fifth straight
GROVE CITY, PA, December 12, 2000--Junior Stephanie Murphy (Munroe Falls, OH/Stow-Munroe Falls) scored eight of her career-high 20 points during an 18-0 second-half spurt that rallied Grove City past visiting Juniata, 69-55, Tuesday night.
The Lady Wolverines, off to their best start since 1982-83, picked up their fifth straight win and improved to 7-1 overall. The Eagles fell to 3-5.
Juniata led by as many as 10 points in the first half before taking a 35-29 lead into intermission. The Eagles opened the lead back up to 10, 39-29, at 18:03 of the second half, but Grove City countered with 18 straight points, sparked by Murphy and sophomore Jessica Jenkins (Conneautville, PA/Cambridge Springs), who contributed four points and three offensive rebounds in the run. Jenkins finished with a career-high 18 points and nine boards.
Senior Kristina Dixon (Smethport, PA/Smethport) posted the team's first double-double of the season with 10 points and 13 caroms. Junior T.L. Thompson (Girard, PA/Girard) chipped in with nine points, three rebounds and a pair of steals. Junior Livia Wright (Economy, PA/Ambridge) added six points and four boards.
Murphy, this week's Presidents' Athletic Conference player of the week, nailed nine of 10 free throws and added three rebounds.
Juniata misfired on seven three-point attempts in the second half after hitting 4 of 8 in the first twenty minutes. The Eagles were paced by Brandy Preslovich's 14 points. Kelly Steinbeiser added 10 points and 11 rebounds.
