Lady Wolverines take 8-1 record into Christmas

WHEELING, WV , December 14, 2000--Junior T.L. Thompson (Girard, PA/Girard) had the hot hand on an otherwise cool night from the floor, but Grove City managed to post its sixth straight victory and improve to 8-1 on the season with a 60-57 victory at Division II Wheeling Jesuit Thursday night.

Thompson finished with a team-high 13 points on 5-for-7 shooting, which included a 3-for-4 clip from three-point territory.  Three other Lady Wolverines scored in double-figures as junior Stephanie Murphy (Munroe Falls, OH/Stow-Munroe Falls), junior Kristy Kegg (Johnstown, PA/Ferndale) and senior Kristina Dixon (Smethport, PA/Smethport) tossed in 12, 11 and 10 points, respectively. 

Grove City trailed by six at halftime, 31-25, after shooting just 28% (7-25) in the first 20 minutes.  The Lady Wolverines hit 12 of 27 shots in the second half, while holding the Lady Cardinals to 28.6% shooting (8-28) after intermission.

The Lady Wolverines were outrebounded 39-30 with Kegg grabbing a team-best six boards.  Dixon, who played two seasons at Wheeling Jesuit before transferring last year, collected five boards.

Murphy added five assists and three steals.

The Lady Cardinals fell to 1-4.

Grove City's previous best start came in 1982-83 when it opened the year with 10 straight victories.  The Lady Wolverines are idle until Dec. 27-28 when they tip off at the Otterbein Christmas Tournament in Westerville, OH.
